Nothing is music to the ears of Uncle Sam like the sound of an entire symphony booming its red, white and blue off the walls of the Rocky Mountains.
The 2008 Bravo! Vail Valley Music Festival has already begun and is about to unleash its biggest acts as Vail’s high summer season and Independence Day celebrations approach.
The famed Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra hits the stage at Ford Amphitheater for a series of magical performances through July 4, after which the orchestral reigns are taken over by the Philadelphia Orchestra, which plays a handful of shows through July 14 and the New York Phil through July 25.
That’s not to mention the vocalists, quartets and chamber ensembles playing at Beaver Creek’s Vilar Center, Vail Mountain School and throughout the valley through Aug. 2.
Bravo!’s offerings also include Bach on the Rocks, a program of social and educational events aimed at sparking an interest in classical music among 21- to 49-year-old listeners.
There are also Performance Preludes, in which composers, conductors and musicians, teaming up with the Vail Symposium, provide unique insight into upcoming pieces.
For future Beethovens, don't miss the Instrument Petting Zoo, which tours local farmers markets offering children the exotic opportunity not only to stroke, but to really get to know a variety of symphonic instruments.
